[3], 362 pp.; [2], 388 pp.; [2] 376 pp. (8vo) 18.5x11.5 cm (7¼x4½"), contemporary brown quarter calf, marbled sides, black leather labels, gilt rules, decorations and lettering.  First Edition.  A novel about Shakespeare and his contemporaries, and the first novel to use Shakespeare as the focal point of a historical novel. Williams wrote one other novel about Shakespeare, dealing only with his youth, and an interesting novel about Horace Walpole and Strawberry Hill.  Edges and boards a little rubbed; very good copy.
