There are 20th century annotations throughout in colored inks in the hand of Charles Larkin, whose signature appears on the front pastedown. It appears Larkin was interested in the Baconian theory of Shakespearean authorship and was attempting to find cyphers and other clues in the text of Bacon's works; copies of other books by Bacon owned by Larkin have been seen with similar annotations.
