About Us
Dear fellow collector,
Thanks for stopping by our website.
I’m Ron Gillespie, president of Numismatic Rarities.
I’d like to take a moment to tell you a little about our
company.
Like most of you, I am first and foremost a
collector. Every coin you’ll see on these pages has been
hand selected by me as though it were destined for my personal
collection. In fact several
of the coins in this initial offering are from my personal
collection. Though relatively small in number, the coins comprise a wide
range of issues, reflecting my belief that it’s best not to specialize
in any one area. (I touch
upon the travails of in-depth specialization in our Cardinal Rule number
Six).
My pricing policy is simplicity itself.
Coins I purchase outright are priced to you at five percent above
my cost. For coins given us
on consignment, I charge five percent over the consignor’s asking
price. Hardly a formula for
rampant success, but I’m not out to make a killing in the rare coin
business. I’ve been
buying, selling, collecting and trading rare coins for the better part
of fifty years. My goal is
to find a few serious collectors who might benefit from my experience
and contacts in forming their own collections.
As regards our web site, we do everything in-house:
programming, design, layout, imaging, cataloging and database management.
In addition, we publish no fancy brochures, nor do we take long-running
ads in the numismatic periodicals. Our aim is to keep overhead to
a minimum and adhere to our strict five percent policy as long as
possible.
I do hope you visit us again from time to time.
I promise an interesting mix of rare coins spanning a broad
spectrum of issues, with the primary focus being Early United States
(1793-1807) and Roman Imperatorial and early Imperial.
And, unlike most other dealers, I’ll keep you
posted on which areas of the market have gone soft – that is, are
currently out of favor. Remember – these are the areas you should be watching.
It's all part of Cardinal Rule number
Seven.
Finally,
I'd love to hear from you. Please feel free to use our feedback
form to apprise us of your numismatic needs, or simply tell us what you
think about our site, our policies or our offerings.
